Welsh Health Minister Announces Advanced Cancer Services for Wales

advanced cancer treatment technology, Welsh Health Minister Lesley Griffiths has shed light to utilize £4.6 million into new services for Wales.

Mrs. Griffiths said, "Developing this technology in Wales means that Welsh patients will be treated here; at present around 65 patients a year travel to England for SRS treatment, and less than ten a year for SBRT".

Velindre Cancer Centre will provide these efficient services and treatment to cancer patients. After making a huge investment, it has decided to treat people with two technologies.

The care treatment will be able to provide a helping hand through linear accelerator which helps to carry full stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). Another one is associated image guided radiotherapy which would provide stereotactic radio surgery service in Wales.

Stereotactic body radiotherapy will help lung patients. It is the targeted form of radiotherapy and reduces the damage to neighbouring tissues. This includes release of a single fraction of high-dose radiation to patients generally within the skull.

Associated Image guided radiotherapy is the process of recurrent two and three-dimensional imaging. In this radiation treatment, it uses imaging coordinates of the definite radiation treatment plan. The work is still in progress and there are various spheres where much has to be done.
